Photo engraving: questions and answers
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo and the background removal are processed only in your browser. The photo never leaves your device and is not stored anywhere.
Which photos work best?
Well-lit photos with a clear subject. Portraits, pets and objects against a calm background look best; busy backgrounds can be removed with one click.
What do dots and greyscale mean?
With “Dots” the photo is converted into fine dots (dithering) – this works with any laser and on glass. “Greyscale” is meant for lasers with a greyscale mode.
Why is the image inverted for slate?
The laser makes slate and glass lighter, not darker. So that the photo looks right, the light areas of the image are engraved.
Which software do I need?
Open the SVG in LightBurn or xTool Creative Space, for example. The engraving image is also available as a PNG with the correct size and dpi.
Does it work with my laser?
Yes. The generator exports SVG files in real millimetres that you can import into xTool Creative Space, xTool Studio, LightBurn and other common laser software. Cut and engrave are on separate layers.
